YOUR GUIDE TO hiking Gara Gorge Armidale

Charlotte and Ross, friends of FOUND Regional, love hitting the region’s hiking trails with baby Margot in tow. Here they share their top tips when tackling the Gara Gorge loop in Armidale, also known as the Blue Hole.

The details

Distance – 5.5km, loop.

Location – 20 minutes from Armidale along Castledoyle Road, kicks off at the Blue Hole

Intensity – Moderate, but with a clearly defined path. 

Need to know? – No phone signal, no dogs allowed. 

Facilities – Car park, benches and bbq facilities found at the start of the trail.

  • This stunning 5.5km loop rewards you with breathtaking views of the gorge, sounds of the water and birds singing throughout. 

  • You can also soak up a phenomenal view out to the Gara Gorge halfway through the loop at a main lookout. 

  • It was all too much beauty for Margot, who had a snooze on Dad.
