Blooming Marvellous By James White
Local artist James White is bringing his love of flowers to the New England Regional Art Museum this Friday 5 May, with his visually stunning exhibition ‘Blooming Marvellous’.
Growing up on the family farm in Boggabri in northern NSW, James White has had an appreciation of flowers since he was a young lad gardening with his mum – his love of art beginning after he started attending The Armidale School where he was inspired by traditional painter Fred Roberts.
After winning the watercolour prize at the Currabubula Art Show in 1964, White spent the next three years travelling and painting overseas. Now, returning to his roots and the family farm, he has taken his passion to the next level with the ‘Blooming Marvellous’ exhibition.
Open from 6pm on 5 May at NERAM, ‘Blooming Marvellous’ is a series of artworks that connect the flowers depicted with everyday objects and the significance of their interaction in our personal lives.
"I just love the colour, form, and structures of the flowers, but I also try to create a storyline which is fed into the paintings. The titles also provide some insight into my intentions," White said.
The pieces are pure watercolour, showcasing the amazing versatility of the medium, while White’s skillful use of technique creates a depth and richness that is both stunning and engaging.
Having had solo exhibitions of watercolours at NERAM in 1998, 2004, 2008 and 2010, as well as various exhibitions at Weswal Gallery in Tamworth, the Moree Gallery, the Narrabri Art Gallery, and Gallery 126 in Armidale – James White is a seasoned pro.
