Eve Flower School has arrived
Yes, you read that correctly – a flower school exists in the New England and we couldn’t be more excited. Here we chat with Eve Flowers owner Mika Ingvardotter, a born and bred Swede who’s been a florist for the past 15 years. In that time she decorated George Clooney’s holiday home for Christmas and memorised the bouquet Chris Hemsworth regularly ordered from her for his wife… just saying. Read on to find out how you can learn from one of the best in the flower biz.
I’m very excited to bring the Eve Flower School to our flower-loving community. As a full-service florist who specialises in sustainable weddings and events, vase arrangements, bouquets, locally-made gifts with same day flower delivery to Uralla, Armidale and Walcha, I felt it was time to bring something fresh to the mix.
I also saw a need for a floristry education in our regional area. When I took my certificate III and IV in floristry I had to do it online, then travelled to Brisbane for exams and tests. I think people living in rural areas should have the same opportunities as people in cities, so I completed my certificate IV in training and assessment, became a floristry teacher and there we have it. I chose to call New England home for a reason, we love living here – and hopefully Eve Flower School can attract not only locals, but people looking to explore our beautiful part of the world while studying floristry.

Introduction to floristry
If you don’t quite feel ready for school but are keen to dip your toe among the flowers, Mika is also hosting an Introduction to Floristry course – perfect for anyone without previous experience but who’s curious about floristry as a profession. The spring term 2024 course kicks-off on Saturday 31 August. Classes will be held every Saturday between 1.30pm–3.00pm. Here’s the lowdown from Mika.
Class 1
We take a closer look into the world of a florist, we discuss what cut flowers are and which ones are ideal for floristry and how to look after your bouquet. We learn how to prep cut flowers ahead of binding, and start learning simple spiral techniques using seasonal flowers. We talk seasonal availability and what to consider when choosing materials for our bouquet.
Class 2
Spiral techniques – we discuss negative spaces in our bouquets, how we use focal flowers and why certain placements matter in a round versus front facing bouquet. We discuss grouping of components in a bouquet and how to avoid a ‘messy’ impression. We create a classic wild and flowing round bouquet, as well as a front facing presentation bouquet.
Class 3
Mainly focusing on colour theory and how to apply this in floristry. What colour combinations attract the eye and why? We chat wedding flowers and how a bridal bouquet differs from a regular ‘shop’ bouquet and why it has a different price tag. We talk briefly about wedding trends in the world and how to present to a potential wedding client. We learn how to create a wired buttonhole as well as an open stemmed buttonhole.
Class 4
In this final class we learn how to create a round floral arrangement using sustainable techniques rather than floral foam. We talk about what different shaped arrangements are used for, and how to achieve certain looks and to follow briefs from clients. We look at floral frogs and other alternatives to floral foam and how to look after our arrangements.
What’s included in the course fee?
Pretty much everything! All the flowers your heart desires, materials, tools and vessels. Besides that you have life long access to all course material used in class, which can be accessed via our online portal or as printed version.
What do I need to bring?
Nothing besides yourself, a water bottle and perhaps a snack. Wear closed in shoes and bring all your questions and ideas.
What about the financial side of things?
Your investment for these four classes is $695, all flowers and materials included. Chat to us about payment plans!
